Our current 200-bed facility often has occupancy rates
of over 104 per cent at peak times; on its busiest days,
the Hospitals ER can see 190 patients with only 22
stretchers.
Hospital staff struggle to care for the increased volume
of patients with space limitations and programs created
for less than half that number.
Our community has exploded to over 300,000.
Markham Stouffville Hospital was built in 1990 when
the population was 77,000.
